This week in ISM I researched a method of reducing OCD and anxiety habits called cognitive control. I learned that cognitive control supports goal-directed behavior in the face of difficulties, so instead of a person with OCD avoiding their habits they are actually learning to intentionally select their thoughts and behaviors. I found this to be a very interesting approach to OCD and anxiety treatment, especially as it was something I had never heard of before Moreover, this week I went on my first mentor visit with Dr. Covert. In our visit we laid down what our future together would look like by discussing things like how we will communicate with each other, what days we will typically meet, and more. This meeting was extremely beneficial for laying the groundwork of our mentorship together, as we went over the entire mentorship handbook. This next week, I need to work on finalizing my final product plan and discussing the logistics of it with my mentor so that she can give me her feedback on it. In essence, I need to put the finishing touches on my idea so that I can start making it come to fruition in the near future!
