Extending My Network

9/27/21

This past week I reached out to many professionals. It was challenging to get a response back as I often had to go through office assistants rather than have direct contact with doctors, but eventually I was able to get physicians emails. I was able to set up my first interview for this week, and am very excited to get to ask the doctor questions about sports related concussions as well as neurological disorders. With that being said though, I need to work on my phone call abilities as I still get nervous to do this task. I can overcome this fear of mine by forcing myself to first make phone calls rather than emailing physicians. Moreover, I also researched various epileptic disorders this week. I learned that men are more likely to be affected by post traumatic epilepsy, whereas women are more likely to be affected by dissociative epilepsy. These gender differences in the manifestation of disorders is something I want to further research. This week I was successful in expanding my connections as I reached out to a multitude of physicians and got to learn of doctors offices and specialties I had never heard of prior to this networking process!
